For more than 30 years, the Langley Hospice Society has been committed to providing quality palliative and bereavement care and support to our growing community, and with diverse but limited funding sources, they fundraise annually to be able to continue to offer this type of quality programming and to ensure that with your support, these offerings remain free of charge for those who need them. In addition to palliative care and support in the hospice residence and in the community, the Langley Hospice Society provides a number of important bereavement support programs. These include: individual and group grief support programs, day camps and summer camp for grieving children and teens; community outreach and volunteer training programs, Supportive Steps—a walking group for bereaved adults, Infant Loss Support and Widow’s Support Groups, Cooking for One, Grief Support and Outreach in local high schools, a resource library, and much more. Since its incorporation in 1983, the Langley Hospice Society has always had a goal of a permanent, free-standing hospice residence to ensure access to quality palliative care and support for our growing community. With a recent offer of land to build a new 15-bed, free-standing hospice, the Langley Hospice Society is excited to be working in partnership with Fraser Health’s Palliative Care Team, to make the new hospice residence a reality for Langley. The New Langley Hospice Residence Project will see our community increase its much needed bed count to 15 private rooms – an increase of 5 from what is currently available. With funding in place for construction, the Society hopes to break ground, early this year. As construction begins, the new residence fundraising committee will be looking to the community for additional support to raise the funds necessary to furnish and outfit the new residence and truly make our new house – a home.
